So the studio was invaded this evening…
By about a dozen girl scouts – ranging in age from about 7 to about 17, plus about five parents.
In the past, we’ve been asked by local Girl Scout troops to provide a portion of their Photography badge by training them, and giving them something to do in the photography area. What we did filled both parts of what they were looking for.
For the first part, I talked about the main light, fill light and separation light. I showed them how the main light works, why the fill light is necessary and how big a difference the separation light makes. After a few questions, and some funny moments, I set it up so that each girl would take a picture of another girl in their troop. I took the picture of the first girl.
The girl who was the subject took the next picture of another girl. And so on.
The last girl took a picture of me.
I’ve looked better.
I’ve looked a LOT worse.

Turkey. Football. Shopping. More Turkey.
That would sum up my holiday break, if that’s all there was. Yes, we ate. Good food, steeped in tradition and good family fun. Football – yes, we watched lots of football.
The next day we went shopping, like millions of other crazy people did. We got a few bargains, found Diana a new coat, and had some fun running around town.
We left Robesonia PA on Saturday to head home. We didn’t stop much along the way like we usually do. We were tired. I never sleep quite right on that bed at my mother-in-law’s house. Oh well… the family is why I’m there, anyway.
This was indeed a day of reflection, remembrance, and respect.
Diana’s Grandmother, Martha Meese, passed away on November 3, 2007. Today was the memorial service and burial. While I can’t say more than any close family member might, I can tell you how I felt about Martha.
The first time I met her, she smiled at me. Every time I saw her, she smiled. I can’t remember a time when I didn’t at least get a friendly nod. She would often ask how I was doing, and was interested in what I had to say. It’s easy to reflect on the little time I’ve known her.
My best remembrance of her will be in her granddaughter’s eyes… that beautiful smile and loving way, always caring about what I have to offer.
I paid my respect as we drove to the top of Tom’s mountain to the private Meese cemetary and buried her ashes next to her husband, who preceded her some years ago. Afterward, we hugged and talked about good times.
But it was cold up there, and so we all soon parted ways.
But kept Grandma in our hearts.
Olivia’s mother called and said that Olivia is auditioning for a fashion show and needs some pictures. I said sure, and we ended up spending about an hour with this dynamic young lady taking photos for her portfolio and as headshots for her auditions. This particular photo wasn’t part of what they needed for her headshots, but it was really cute.
What is the most unique gift you’ve given your spouse as a holiday treasure?
Gwen decided she wanted to give her husband the gift of a portrait of her. How very thoughtful. We did quite a few poses with Gwen, and she was pleased with all of them. For the picture above, we did a little spot color to make things stand out a little.
This young family came to us after they’d won a gift card at the Huntfield Fall Festival. They were getting some photos for the holidays and of course wanted to be together for it.
Chris was more interested in having a few casual photos along with his traditional tuxedo photo for the yearbook. So, we did a few casual photos. He graduates in 2008, and seems to be pretty happy about that.
Another up and coming star, Alex came to us for his executive portrait. He is currently working as a chief of staff to a VP of a large international company. His wife, who accompanied him, said he never looked better.
We agreed. 🙂
Many years ago, Sandi worked in our production department and kept things pretty well taken care of. We were sad to see her go, but glad she has found her niche in life. Sandi is just the sweetest person, and Chris seems so completely devoted to her.
This was a wedding reception for family, friends, and coworkers. Sandi and Chris were married in Jamaica in October, where some close family attended. But being who they are, they wanted to share their joy with everyone else, too.
We were grateful to be on hand to not only share their happiness, but to capture a few portraits and memories to put in one of Sandi’s many (many, many) books.
We do so many personal portraits, that it seems like anyone who needs a brochure or business card photo has to stop here first. Charmaine’s new position with an area bookseller mandated a nice portrait for her sales brochure.
