Move Along!!
Today I was working on some modeling shots for a young lady who is looking to get some work in the magazine world. Her parents accompanied her, mom basically offering her hair-checking skills and dad holding a large reflector.
The first shots we did were in the field across the street. We are right on the corner of a U.S. Route and a fairly busy road into a subdivision, so there’s constantly traffic. As we were getting set up, there were plenty of lookie-loos trying to figure out “what’s that wacky photographer doing THIS time???” coming into and out of the subdivision… they’re my neighbors, so they can ask that.
Once we got the motorcycle in place, the lighting ready, and the pose set, my client took off a small jacket and was wearing a bikini bathing suit top and short shorts, along with some really cool western boots. Now there were a few more people slowing to take a look. And in my rather narrow way of thinking, I was focused on my work and not the traffic. I was busily trying to make sure dad was “aiming” the reflector properly, that the pose was right and that my angle was precise for the types of shots I was trying to get.
Until I heard “Move Along! Keep going!” I turned to see mom, looking toward traffic on the subdivision road, waving people along who’d slowed down to take a look. In all fairness, they could have been looking at WHAT we were doing, and not her 20-year old daughter. But she wasn’t taking any chances, discouraging any possibility that someone was going to get an eyeful at her daughter’s expense.
This happened at least 2-3 times more before we wrapped the shoot in that field and moved to the next stage, which was in our private portrait park (6 foot fence 🙂 for more shots in another bathing suit. Then we moved into the studio for some more shots in a red dress.
I think we got a lot of good photos done. I have not really started editing yet.
There’s a part of me that expects to hear “okay, move along” if I look at any one image too long. :\
Thanks to all who helped with the shoot today, including Ceejae, who continues to amaze me with her makeup skills.
