The Morrison Family

In the grand scheme of things, we are subjects of our children’s whims. When the Morrisons came to us for holiday portraits, they didn’t realize that their daughter would be the one who came up with the best pose of the session.

Maura

Maura is an actress. She needed an updated portrait for her Screen Actor’s Guild portfolio catalog page. One catch phrase that Maura used about her roles is that she is cast as “A woman of a certain age.”

Emma

Little Emma came to us at only three months old… a very happy little baby, we took lots of pictures of her in a few different outfits. She cooperated most in the “natural” outfit, though.

The Updike Family

Amanda and her family had only moved into the area a few years ago, and sought out a photographer for their holiday photos by asking around. The recommendation continued to be TLC, so here is where they came.

Katie and Ray’s Engagement Portraits

This is a very unique couple… the things they have in common have nothing to do with who they are, which makes them fun-loving and great to be with.

Katie’s wedding is in May of 2007 and we are privileged to be able to photograph that as well.

Ray had suggested taking pictures at the Rumsey Monument, which I was happy to do.

Brendan and Keegan

Monique brought her two boys to us for some holiday photos, and ended up with treasures above and beyond what she’d hoped for. Both boys certainly had their own personalities, and it shows in the photos.

When we arrived at the park, a train on the nearby CSX tracks was idling. Brendan immediately ran to the middle of a field to watch the train for a moment or so before we began taking photos. I thought it was worthy of an image itself.
But then we captured this gem.

Sonora

The holiday season often means portraits of children, families and pets. Sonora was one of the first of the children to come to us via her mother, Alison.

Not unlike most of our children’s sittings, mother and daughter were both a big part of the sitting. This makes a big difference, because children are often happier when a parent is involved prior to doing any kind of posing.

Here, Alison and Sonora played patty-cake for awhile.

After awhile Sonora became so accustomed to being in the lights that she readily posed, with the help of some additional props and a clothing change.

Colyn and Jordan

Having the opportunity to work with Diana at a wedding is always a plus. Having the opportunity for Diana to photograph most of the wedding is just another testament to her extensive skills and the flexibility we have.

A Friday wedding is usually a plus, since most weddings are on Saturdays. This one took place at the Dulles Marriott near Dulles International Airport. I drove down separately from Diana, since I had to leave early to announce a football game.

I got things started by visiting the room where the ladies were getting ready. On the way, I ran across the flower girl on the way to join the rest of the bride’s party.

We proceeded from there to an interior courtyard at the hotel where the light was quite nearly perfect. One advantage we had with this wedding party was that an old friend and former employee was a very good friend of the bride’s and was in the wedding party. Brandy is on the right in this photo.

We only had about 15 minutes worth of good light. I tried to make good use of it.

On the way out to the lobby, we stopped in a hallway that was laden with south-facing windows and took a few shots with Colyn looking out.

From this point, Diana pretty much took over. The ceremony went along without incident, but with lots of happy people.

Afterward, Diana took the wedding party to a rather picture-perfect corner to do some additional photos. Capturing the special shots means all the difference to wedding photography.

During the reception, Diana got even more creative.

After the wedding, Diana had a quick meal with her assistant and headed home.

The Yellow Brick Bank

As part of my continuing work for the Valley Homes and Style magazine, I went to the Yellow Brick Bank to get a couple of photos of executive chef Karl Brown. He was also gracious enough to provide menu and recipe information.

Jennifer

Out of the many senior portraits that we do, the outdoor locations always seem to work best. Jennifer came to us with a couple of outfits and we encouraged her to have some photos done at the nearby park. Below is one of the photos from her sitting.
